Rafting on the Rio Grande

1105 Madison Plaza Suite 120 Chesapeake, VA 23320

A great rafting tour you cannot miss is the one on the Rio Grande

Just on the eastern side of the Island of Jamaica, nearby Port Antonio and around 1 hour and a half’s drive from Aquamarina Villa, you will find: Rio Grande (“Big River”), one of the largest rivers in Jamaica with its estuary that gently flows into Saint Margaret’s Bay.

You will experience a relaxing trip aboard a real bamboo raft, poled along the river by a local skilled boatman. The rafts were originally used to transport goods – fruits, for examples – but Rio Grande’s River Rafting is now one of the main attractions of Jamaica. Its popularity is certainly due to a beautiful, fun and enjoying adventure!

The tour begins at the Rafters Rest, and it lasts around 2-3 hours, depending on the river current, the package you choose and… the boatman’s strength! He will also entertain you with curious facts and information about the area’s flora and fauna, and some local legends and lore.

The raft is around 4 feet wide and 25 to 30 feet long, and each one can carry 2 adults and 1 child. You will enjoy the ride while comfortably seated on the elevated lounge chairs, also made from bamboo.

We suggest you wear informal clothes, like shorts and a T-shirt and some comfortable sneakers, but you should also bring a swimsuit, a towel and some sunscreen with you!

The Rio Grande River Rafting is, basically, a tour amongst the natural wonders of Jamaica and its tropical environment. You will be surrounded by lushy green vegetation and have the chance to admire local wildlife… while dipping in the fresh “Big River’s” waters!
